Ourmedia Still Not Working

I just tried it again… twice and I’m still getting the invalid meta error when trying to upload to ourmedia.org.

I’ve been trying to tell people to use ourmedia but invariably they tell me that it’s frustrating and does not work. Perhaps it should go back into private beta to avoid more bad PR.

UPDATE: Just read the new “trouble uploading” page on ourmedia and it gave me a few things to try.

UPDATE AGAIN: Hoorah! It worked. I guess the problem was that I needed to put in at least six words in the description field. Well I’m glad it works now! It would be better if it tells you the errors before you finish uploading though.

HOLY FUCK!

From Slashdot, Google is allowing uploads of video, similarly to ourmedia.org, except hopefully Google’s works.

Now here’s why it worries me big time. My worries started with Marc Canter’s ourmedia announcement at Vloggercon.

Let me save you the time of watching the future: These big media guys are going to become the art police. It’s obvious. All of them have guidelines against pornography and while Goolgle states “no obscenity,” Ourmedia.org may go in that direction too.

I have been involved with art-porn and obscenity in my work for several years and let me tell you, it’s not as straightforward as you may think. Porn and art are not mutually exclusive.

I will have to write moron this when I am less emotional. Anyway, here’s the text from the article:
Your work deserves to be seen.
You’ve made a great video. Now who will watch it?

Whether you produce hundreds of titles a year or just a few, you can give your videos the recognition and visibility they deserve by promoting them on Google – for free. Signing up for the Google Video Upload Program will connect your work with users who are most likely to want to view them.

Sign up and upload…
We’re accepting digital video files of any length and size. Simply sign up for an account and upload your videos using our Video Uploader (please be sure you own the rights to the works you upload), and, pending our approval process and the launch of this new service, we’ll include your video in Google Video, where users will be able to search, preview, purchase and play it. Find out more here.

For major producers…
If you’re from a TV station or production facility, we have a separate process to help you join the Google Video Upload Program. Find out more here.

This is XXX and not safe for anyone! It’s a behind the scenes video I made from the shooting of Other People’s Mirrors, a feature film which I D.P.’d for award winning Artist, Artvamp in 2000.

See Artvamp’s web site. She’s an amazing artist and winner of the New York Film festival and a bunch of other stuff.

Avid

I can’t believe I’m saying this but I think I like Avid Xpress DV more than FCP4.5.
Thanks, Eli Chapman for the software!
